Events & Group News
Our Volunteer Committees in London, Surrey, Khartoum - AND NOW AMERICA! - host Events throughout the year - everything from summer sales to concerts, dinners, talks and parties in public, private and exclusive venues throughout the year. We plan for all ages - goats in the garden for teeny tots, fly fishing in idyllic surroundings in Surrey, and quiet coffee gatherings for the rest of us!
The highlight of the year was the Annual Candlelit Christmas Concert, in London at St Paul's Knightsbridge. Thank you to all those who came to share such a special event with us, to the volunteers who worked so hard to give us such a magical way to start the Christmas season - and specially to ALASTAIR STEWART, RUTH RENDELL, RUTH PALMER, LORD COPE and PRUNELLA SCALES. It is incredibly touching to find such famous people giving their time to help small children living in huts in the sands of Darfur.
The Trustees would like to pay a special tribute to NICHOLAS & CHRISSIE BEALE at SCITEB LTD who sponsored the event and to CAMILLA MACPHERSON who designed our first major A4 Programme.
A Big thank you to advertisers in the Programme:
Veereswamys - Delamere Dairy - Daneshill School - Design Lynx - Omnicom Media Group - Downs Solicitors - Brand Science
But our biggest thank you is to VAL BEYNON who, as Musical Director and Conductor of St Andrews Singers and the children of Danes HIll School, was the genius behind the concert.

On Friday Sept 14th local band THE PROGNOSIS, come of age with their first appearance at Dorking Halls. With their authentic recreations of rock classics from Pink Floyd, Genesis, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Camel and a few new surprises – The Prognosis are finding the ageless appeal of the Progressive Rock era relevant to both those who remember it first time round, and new fans who apperciate the depth and quality of this music.
Playing classic tracks like; Shine on you Crazy Diamond, Cinema Show, Time, I know what I like, Firth of the Fifth, Fanfare for a Common Man and Wish you were here,The Prognosis have built a fine reputation around Surrey....recent feedback on their website sums up what they do best....”It was great to hear such a breadth of classic rock all performed to to such high standards in one night”
The band are an unusual blend of characters including a local minister, a Toyboy (Well a guy who has worked 20 years in the Toy Industry), an Internet whiz, and 2 software experts. Commenting on the forthcoming event bass player Richard Flanders said ” When we started the band 2 years ago it was just for fun, we never expected such groundswell of interest in the band, and such an appreciation of playing tribute to the Progressive Rock Era”
Ian Twentyman keyboard player comments “ Every year we try and do one special charity gig- this year sees us come to the Dorking Halls for a special event for Kids for Kids...a local band, a local charity and a local venue ... We look forward to putting on something special”
